From our Data Czar about our rocket start.
With 11 nests to today, tied for one the fastest starts to 10 nests. The fastest was 2011 in the last 15 years. 2011 was a down year total nest wise. 2022 was the next fastest and that was a up year but not the peak. With a beach success of 81% as of today, the highest in 15 years thru 13 nests. Tough to draw any conclusions this early but my personal opinion I would put $ on an up year. Of course this could be another 2011 or 2014 . Lowest nesting in 16 years. 30+ nests in M

Sunday on the board with Two Nests and a NNE
Photos by permitted volunteers under Permit 2026-MTP537 A classic crawl and body pit made for a quick find for Nest #10 in Zone 2. The nest was relocated just behind and above htl in dune. Zone 3 had a NNE. A valiant effort by Elaine to put a nest number on that crawl but no eggs wre located. Zone 5 Nest #11 was found and relocated above the htl.

Thursday May 14th Practicaly Perfect
What a lovely morning! The weather was perfect, the tides cooperated, and best of all, so did the turtles. Thursday has two nests under its proverbial belt! Jim was our good luck charm once again and found nest #4 right off the bat in zone 3. This was a textbook nest, unfortunately, laid just a little too low. 142 eggs were relocated to the edge of the dunes. Then the call came from Buddy. They have a nest in zone 4 in a most precarious position. Thankfully, our zone 5/6 per

Nest 5 spotted by eye in sky
The picture(s) were taken by permitted volunteers under permit 2026-MTP537. Following all rules and guidelines.only permitted individuals are allowed to engage in sea turtle conservation activities. We use a drone to check 3/4 of zone 4 inaccessible during high tide occuring during morning patrol. This allows us to still check for nesting and also keep volunteers safe. This morning we spotted a crawl in 4 and it became nest 5 . Laid in spot most people wouldn't believe a sea

Nest 4 in zone 3
The picture(s) were taken by permitted volunteers under permit 2023-MTP537. Following all rules and guidelines.only permitted individuals are allowed to engage in sea turtle conservation activities. Nest 4 was found in zone 3 this morning, relocated to dune directly behind original location. Nest 4 had to be relocated because original spot was in a low area prone to inundation by tide or more likely rain. First activity for Thursday group this season . Way to go Thursday 👏

Unfortunately no Mother's Day nest this season
No activity again today. But this is not unusual , historically we get our first nest the 2nd or 3rd week of May. The first week of May less often. Even though islands right around us are getting activity, it's the Mama's that decide when and where.

A beautiful start for Friday’s patrol.
Still no loggerhead’s visiting the beach, but at the north end of Zone 1 a lot of jelleyfish washed up on the beach hopefully the turtles will follow.

There's turtle activity on Hunting Island just not the sea kind .
We have many turtles laying eggs and attempting to lay eggs on Hunting Island. Just not the marine turtles. Yellow belly sliders have been seen doing the nesting attempt. So we've had turtles just not from the seas, but the ponds.
