Nest #64 was located today in zone 3 and left in situ...

Weather conditions were breezey with a pretty partial sunrise. Volunteers saw storm clouds off in the distance but were spared any bad weather!
Hatching continues and our volunteers are monitoring the nests and watching for signs of emergence.
At the end of patrol Volunteers inventoried two nests that had previously hatched. When a nest is inventoried the eggs are dug out of the nest chamber and counted. We are counting how many eggs hatched, and didnt hatch. Other information logged is how many live or dead hatchlings are found in the nest, if any. If there are dead hatchlings they are checked carefully to see if they are viable enough for a sample to be collected to be used for a paternity test.
Both nests inventoried today were left in situ, so it was a surprise to see how many eggs were there along with how many hatched and unhatched.
The first nest inventoried had 98 hatched and 13 unhatched!!
The second nest inventoried had 146 hatched, and 23 unhatched!!

📸 The pictures were taken by permitted volunteers under permit 2025-MTP537 & 2025-MTP565, Following all rules and guidelines. Only permitted individuals are allowed to engage in sea turtle conservation activities.
