Update from our Data Czar

Wow, 2023 continues to perk right along. We are tracking pretty darn close to the nest counts in 2022 at this point and ahead of 2019. Over last 3 days on Hunting Island, there have been 13 nests!!!!

Now for the comparison - number of nests as of July 5th............

2019 117 127

2022 127 135

2023 132 132

DSFN = days since first nest of season!!

Why include 2019? It was a near record year for nests on Hunting prior to 2022.

In fact, at this point, 2023 already has more nests than prior yearly nests counts going back to 1980 except for 1984, 2016, 2019 and 2020 (obviously 2022 as well).

I would expect a slow down in daily nests to start over the next 1-2 weeks. If not, then it will be a banner year again!!
