Creature Feature: Meet at the Nature Center. Discover some of the wildlife found around Hunting Island as represented by our animal ambassadors at the Nature Center. Available to all ages. (30 minutes; free with park admission)
Traces of Wild Ruffians: Meet at the Nature Center. Put your investigative hats on and find out what mammals are rummaging through Hunting Island. Learn how to identify mammal tracks and how to read the story the tracks can show you. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Bring sunscreen, bug spray and water. Ages 7-12. (1 hour; free with park admission)
Beach Walk: Meet at the Lighthouse. Our beach is littered with treasures from the ocean. Walk along the beach with a naturalist to find out what you are finding and learn more about this favorite vacation spot. Available to all ages. (1 hour; free with park admission)
Turtle Talk: Meet at the Nature Center. Can a turtle ever leave their shell? Un-shell their secrets and learn how turtle-y awesome these reptiles are. Get a close up look of our turtles while we feed them at the Nature Center. Available to all ages. (30 minutes; free with park admission)
Gator Gab: Meet at the Nature Center. Congre-gator around our modern-day dinosaurs and learn interesting characteristics about this southeastern wetland species. Watch our vicious hunters eat a delicious meal. Available to all ages. (30 minutes; free with park admission)
Serpent Exploration: Meet at the Nature Center. Come brighten your ssssmile by meeting our sssslithery companionssss. Get a chance to fight your fears by touching a snake or two. For an extraordinarily delicious experience, look for the programs marked with an asterisk. Ssssurprisessss await! Available to all ages. (30 minutes; free with park admission)
Sea Turtle Discovery: Meet at the Nature Center. There are four species of sea turtles that can be found along the South Carolina coast but only one made it to be South Carolina’s State Reptile. Come out to the Nature Center and discover which one it is! Available to all ages. (30 minutes; free with park admission)
Walk with a Naturalist: Meet at the Nature Center. Enjoy a 0.7-mile scenic walk with a naturalist along the Nature Center trail talking about the wildlife that surrounds you and what you can find within. End the walk with a self-guided exploration of Little Hunting Island. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring sunscreen, bug spray and water. The walk is limited to 15 people per program time. Sign up at the Nature Center or call 843-838-7437 by noon the day of to reserve spot(s). Available to all ages. (45 minutes; free with park admission)
What a Wharf: Meet at the Nature Center. Join us as we walk down the pier and learn how Hunting Island and its surrounding ecosystems came to be. Available to all ages. (30 minutes; free with park admission)
Secrets of the Salt Marsh: Meet at the Marsh Boardwalk. Listen to a naturalist spill all the secrets of a highly productive ecosystem found throughout the lowcountry while strolling along a scenic boardwalk. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the hustle and bustle of the salt marsh. Available to all ages. (1 hour; free with park admission)
Want to be a Habitat hero? Attend a daily program at the Hunting Island Nature Center and receive a card & a stamp from the Nature Center staff. After attending THREE different programs, you will become a HABITAT HERO and be eligible for an awesome patch!
Can’t make it to a program? Ask the nature center staff about the Nature Center Scavenger Hunt. Search through the center’s posters and exhibits for answers to win a prize.
