Why Do We Do It?
Why arise before daylight, travel to a volunteer job, and face the heat, sand, long walks, hard work, and occasional stormy weather?
We do it for turtle conservation, of course. But there are also the added benefits that keep us coming back: the great camaraderie and leadership, working as a team to help each other out, and seeing the tracks of the mothers as they come ashore and the babies' tracks as they emerge from the nest. Watching the excitement and awe not only in your teammates but also in the visitors makes it all worth it. Plus, what could be better than an early morning walk on one of the prettiest, undeveloped beaches on the East Coast? Those are just a few of the reasons we keep showing up every week!
Tuesday Nesting Update
This Tuesday we had 5 nests and 3 non-nesting crawls.
Zone 1 totally ruled again with 4 nests!
Zone 2 had 1 nest.
A huge thank you to all the team members who jumped in to help locate, move, and secure the new nests. This teamwork makes it all worthwhile!
