Hunting Island Sand SculptingOne of the most popular summer events sponsored by Friends of Hunting Island is the annual Sand Sculpture Contest. Individuals and teams made up of co-workers, family, or friends gather at North Beach. Sculptures are judged on various criteria and in various categories.  Prizes are awarded in the afternoon. Watch for announcements on this website and the local media about the next Sand Sculpture Contest.

This event brings out the inner artist in everyone! Judging is based on originality, technique, and composition in each division. Kids, adults, families, and teams of all ages are welcome!

There aren’t many rules, but utensils are limited to hand and sculpting toolsA labor intensive job including buckets, shovels, sand scoops, carving tools, putty knives, spray bottles for water, and kitchen utensils. Sculptors can only use natural materials found on or near the beach such as shells, reeds, and small rocks.
