The Pelican Plunge has become one of our favorite annual fund-raising events! The proceeds from personal and team pledges benefit Hunting Island State Park’s Discover Carolina program, a hands-on, curriculum-based instruction model program for 3rd, 5th and 7th grade students in The Beaufort County schools.
Each year, the total raised is over $4,000 to benefit students at the Hunting Island State Park programs. So far, the Pelican Plunge, thanks to the Friends of Hunting Island, has raised over $10,000 for the Discover Carolina program, and Hunting Island and over 3.000 3rd, 5th and 7th graders have participated in the successful educational program on our beloved barrier island.
The event has become quite a New Year's spectacle. Not only is there the plunge, but you should see the costumes! Once the plungers come out of the water and warm up by the chimenea fires and with hot beverages, there is a costume parade, "Simon Says" and Kazoo songs and other activities to spark the interest of all! Each year, the event gets bigger and the costumes more outrageous. And the funds go to help a very special program. Won't you join us this year?
Registration begins at Noon and is on-site, the day of the event!
Hunting Island State Park in cooperation with the Friends of Hunting Island, presented the fifth annual LowCountry version of the ever-popular Polar Bear Plunge, our Pelican Plunge at Hunting Island's Lighthouse (North) Beach on January 1st, 2013.
