Hunting Island’s widespread campground set along the Atlantic shoreline attracts campers with its natural beauty. Most sites have water and electrical hookups. The campground roads are paved and the sites are packed soil. There are sites for both tents and RVs, and some sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet.
A primitive group camping area is available for organized groups up to 100 people. (An organized group is defined as a group that holds regular meetings and has a lead officer or elected/appointed officials). The area includes picnic tables, central water, and a nearby restroom.

Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided that they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten wildlife.
A camp store is conveniently located within walking distance of all the sites, and water spigots are located at each walk-in tent area. Eight bath houses are spread throughout the campground. The walk-in sites fill on holiday weekends but are available any weekday. The rest of the campground fills every weekend during the summer and occasionally during the week. For camping reservations, visit the Hunting Island State Park reservation page or call 1-866-345-PARK (7275). It is recommended that you make your reservation early.
The Friends of Hunting Island was instrumental in the construction of the playground area in the campground. This large area is perfect for kids of all ages.
In addition, we have an ongoing project of dune building to protect the campground and picnic area. By stabilizing the sand hills with native plants, whose roots spread into complex systems that help reinforce the dunes, the sea is kept from washing out roads, parking areas, picnic tables, and campsites.
We need only two things to provide the services and projects you see described on this website: your participation and your tax-deductible membership fees. For one $40 membership contribution, you and your family can join Friends of Hunting Island and have unlimited access to the park for one year. All members are encouraged to participate in any of our on-going projects. If you do not wish to join, but want to donate to our efforts, click here to make a tax-deductible donation to the Friends of Hunting Island.
